Visit Oxford is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to be the welcoming face of our Visitor Center. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, sharing local tips, and helping visitors make the most of their time in Oxford. Volunteers will provide excellent hospitality and become an essential part of creating a warm and memorable visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Warm Welcome: Greet visitors with a friendly smile and create a positive first impression of Oxford.

Visitor Information: Provide details about local attractions, restaurants, shops, historic landmarks, and upcoming events.

Wayfinding: Help guests with directions around Oxford, including parking, downtown areas, the University of Mississippi campus, and other nearby destinations.

Brochure & Guide Distribution: Keep tourism brochures, maps, and guides organized and readily available.

Gift Shop Assistance: Support with light retail tasks such as restocking items, handling simple transactions, and keeping displays neat.

Event Support: Assist with seasonal events, tours, or community outreach activities hosted by Visit Oxford.

Visitor Engagement: Answer questions, offer personalized recommendations, and encourage visitors to explore all Oxford has to offer.

Visitor Feedback: Collect and share guest comments, suggestions, and questions to help improve the Visit Oxford experience.

Light Administrative Help: Support staff with mailings, organizing materials, or behind-the-scenes needs that keep the Visitor Center running smoothly.

Accessibility Support: Offer assistance to visitors with mobility needs or special requests.

OVERVIEW
Mississippi Coats 4 Kidz is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no child in our state goes without a warm coat during the cold months. As demand continues to grow and funding sources become more competitive, we’re seeking a skilled Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure essential funding for the 2025–2026 season.

IMPACT
Your work will directly support our mission of providing new, warm coats to children across Mississippi—many of whom are experiencing poverty, housing instability, or hardship. With your help, we can ensure more kids stay safe, healthy, and confident through the colder months.

EVENT VOLUNTEERS

Event volunteers serve once or multiple times a year at fundraising or wish-granting events in Oxford or surrounding counties.Duties include hosting registration tables, answering phones, collecting donations, setting up or breaking down event sites, assisting staff, holding signs at 5K runs and more. This opportunity is great for volunteers who have less time to commit to training and volunteering.

VOLUNTEER WISH GRANTER:

•Wish Discovery Volunteers - Meets with the wish child and family
members to help identify the child’s wish ideas while completing the
necessary paperwork. Wish Discovery volunteers work in teams of two
alongside Make-A-Wish staff to ensure every eligible child’s wish comes true.
These discovery calls will be done in person or virtually depending on the
family's needs.

•Wish Celebration Volunteers - Acts as the Make-A-Wish liaison to the wish
family after the wish has been determined and the paperwork completed.
These volunteers will also coordinate and execute a wish celebration two to
three weeks prior to the wish being granted. Wish celebration volunteers
work in teams of two alongside Make-A-Wish staff to ensure every eligible

VOLUNTEER WISH GRANTER REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking people with a passion for working with children. In this role, you work as a team with a Wish Coordinator from Make-A-Wish® to determine a child’s one true wish and walk alongside a wish family through the wish process to help deliver a truly transformative wish experience. You are also responsible for helping plan a wish reveal for the wish child to enhance the excitement of the wish!

Maintaining the Oxford Community Garden

Come together to help our garden thrive—with care, love, and teamwork! Whether you're an experienced gardener or just getting your hands dirty for the first time, we invite you to roll up your sleeves, connect with nature, and build community as we tackle a variety of garden tasks.

Suggested Items to Bring

We suggest bringing a sturdy pair of garden gloves, use sun protection products such as long sleeves, hat, sunscreen, etc.. Wear close toe shoes, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

Tasks You’ll Help With:

Harvesting: Picking and weighing produce to be enjoyed and shared with the Oxford Food Pantry or other charitable community organizations. Watering: Making sure plants stay hydrated, especially in warm weather. Transportation: Delivering harvested food to local community partners who help distribute it to those in need. Other activities: As assigned and needed during the growing season.

What to Expect from the Environment:

A welcoming, positive, and friendly atmosphere where everyone is treated with kindness and respect. A chance to spend time outdoors, surrounded by nature, and connect with others who care about growing good things—literally and figuratively! An all-ages event where families, kids, students, and solo volunteers alike come together to share the joy of gardening and giving back.

Physical Requirements & Age Guidelines:

This is a hands-on volunteer opportunity. We’ll be working on our feet, so please wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes suitable for gardening. Tasks may include light to moderate physical activity such as bending, lifting, digging, and carrying. All ages are welcome! Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Older adults are warmly encouraged to participate at their own pace.

Conduct Guidelines:

Be respectful: We’re creating something special together, so please be considerate of others’ space, needs, and abilities. Safety first: Follow guidance from our lead gardeners, use tools appropriately, and stay mindful when working with plants or equipment. Also be aware we have ants and bees around the garden, please have medication as necessary for these. We have basic first aid (alcohol wipes, band-aids, and first aid cream) and occasionally we get scrapes (long pants help) or cuts. Bring your enthusiasm! A positive attitude and a little elbow grease go a long way in making our garden days both fun and impactful.

Duration:

Date(s):  Tuesday mornings during our active growing season, (Dec. 2025) unless otherwise notified. Time:  Currently 8 AM, as the weather warms it will be 7 or 7:30 AM, you will be notified of this change.  End times generally when the harvest is ready to deliver to the pantry on Tuesday morning (we like to get there before 10 AM or shortly thereafter).  Some Tuesdays we might be finished in a short time frame and so if folks want to do other work, it can be arranged.    Volunteers Needed: 4, we never say no to a volunteer!

Come for the fresh air, stay for the community spirit! We can’t wait to see you every Tuesday—and don’t forget, we also gather on the first Saturday of each month starting March 1st, Times: TBA. Urgent Need: Long-Term Salvation Army Volunteers

The Salvation Army urgently needs long-term volunteers who can stand for extended periods and commit to ongoing service. Once trained, you'll be a vital part of keeping operations running smoothly—helping with donations, organizing the thrift store, assisting customers, and supporting seasonal drives. Scheduling and training are flexible, coordinated with the Salvation Army director.

Little Free Pantry Manager

As a Little Free Pantry Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and efficient operation of our community pantries. These pantries provide essential support to those in need, and your efforts will help maintain them as reliable and well-maintained resources.

Responsibilities:

Routine Inspections: Regularly visit assigned pantry(s) to inspect their condition and report any necessary repairs.Inventory Management: Keep an accurate inventory of donated items, ensuring a well-stocked and organized pantry.Quality Control: Check packages to confirm they are properly sealed, labeled, and within their expiration dates.Temperature Monitoring: Collect and record temperature data to ensure perishable items are stored safely and to identify any potential issues related to weather conditions.

Qualifications:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and take initiative.Good communication skills for reporting issues and needs.A passion for community service and helping those in need.

Commitment:

Flexible weekly schedule with a minimum commitment of 3x per week per pantry.Must alert STO office ASAP before ending commitment with pantry.
