Family Crisis Services of Northwest Mississippi, Inc. is proud to be raising awareness for sexual assault by reintroducing the "Jeans for Justice" campaign. Peace Over Violence is a non-profit organization that began recognizing "Denim Day" on the last Wednesday of April.
The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim, leading to the creation of the Denim Day campaign. This year, Denim Day will take place on April 29th.
We would love to see LOTS of denim around to support survivors/victims of sexual assault here in our community!
